I just finished reading Lisa M Hamilton’s new book, “Deeply Rooted.” It was definitely a good look into three farms that buck the conventional agriculture system.
The first farm was an advocate of pasture raised dairy cattle. The second was a beef rancher who spoke to the merits of managed grazing. I especially liked this second section as the rancher demonstrated a real connection to the land. Finally Hamilton visited a poly-culture, organic farm in N Dakota that raise organic grains and vegetables for seed in while everyone else for miles around grows nothing but GMO corn.
Definitely a good read, Hamilton really captures the people behind the farmers. The third family really makes the book worth the while, in my opinion. Perhaps their ideas about seeds saving and genetic diversity really hit home in an age where corporations are taking away our rights to save seeds…
All in all, “Deeply Rooted” is a must read for anyone interested in the agricultural revolution.
