On Sunday afternoon we had the distinct pleasure of hosting Chester Cub Scout Troop 163 at the farm. Looking to organize a community service project, the scouts asked if they could help by doing some maintenance on the hiking trails. We were thrilled to have them come!
We are very lucky to have some very nice, open trails for hiking, running, horseback riding and cross country skiing or snow shoeing in the winter (when there’s snow!) As town property, these trails are open for all Chester residents to use. Once upon a time there was a larger network of trails, but over time some have gotten somewhat overgrown. When the scouts offered their services, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to open up one of the older paths.
Everyone piled on the hay wagon to head out to the woods, armed with clippers, rakes, gloves and saws. It was a pretty warm afternoon, but many hands make light work and in a couple of hours a good section of trail was cleared. It is pretty amazing what a fantastic job a bunch of fourth graders (assisted by a handful of awesome parents and a couple of sisters) could do!
Glenn & I want say thank you to all our helpers that day, not only on our behalf but on behalf of all the residents of Chester who will benefit from their hard work. Well done!
